Most of us were raised in villages and agricultural families.
Agriculture was not something we discovered as a business
opportunity later in life. It was part of our childhood, our
families and our everyday lives. That early connection gave us a
close understanding of how agriculture works, but more importantly,
it made us understand the struggles that come with it.
Why does the person who grows our food often receive the least value
from it?
One of the biggest problems we witnessed was the inability of
farmers to consistently receive the right price for what they
produce. There are many reasons behind this, but one of the
deepest-rooted problems is the traditional supply chain through
which agricultural produce moves from the farm to the final
consumer.
Multiple layers of intermediaries, inefficiencies and information
gaps add cost at every stage. By the time the produce reaches the
consumer, the price has increased significantly, while the farmer
who created the value often receives only a small fraction of it.
We believe this has to change, and technology gives us the
opportunity to build that change. We are connecting farmers more
directly with businesses and consumers, reducing the unnecessary
layers and economic leakage that exist within the traditional
system.
But putting a fair price back in the farmer's hands is only the
beginning. From there, we want to help farmers transform how they
farm and how they participate in the wider agricultural economy.
We are not trying to build just another e-commerce platform.
We are building an ecosystem for agriculture, one
where farmers can prosper, businesses can grow, and consumers can
access better produce. Because agriculture is not just an industry.
It is the foundation on which millions of lives depend.
